Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh challenges Indian government, mob attacks police station in Amritsar
Amritsar, Punjab - A mob of Khalistan supporters attacked the Ajnala police station in Amritsar on February 24th, demanding the release of Lovepreet Toofan, a close aide of Amritpal Singh, the head of the 'Waris Punjab De' organization.
Amritpal Singh, a Khalistan supporter who worked in the transport business in Dubai and returned to India in 2022, has been openly challenging the Indian government.
In a recent statement, he threatened the Home Minister with what happened to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He then followed up by saying that he would ensure their safety and have an open dialogue.
"We are not asking for Khalistan from Delhi. We already have it," he said.

Singh's statements have caused widespread concern among Indian authorities, who fear that the Khalistan movement could once again gain momentum. The Khalistan movement, which seeks to create a separate Sikh state in the Punjab region, has been largely dormant since the 1990s.
The attack on the police station in Amritsar is seen as a direct challenge to the Indian government's authority.
The mob, reportedly consisting of around 50 people, threw stones and set fire to a police vehicle before dispersing. No injuries were reported in the incident.
Amritpal Singh has been using social media to mobilize support for the Khalistan movement, which he claims is a legitimate struggle for self-determination.
He has also been holding rallies and public meetings across Punjab to garner support.
However, his statements have been widely criticized by Indian politicians, who see the Khalistan movement as a threat to national security.

"We will not tolerate any kind of anti-national activities in Punjab," said Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi in a statement. "We will take strict action against those who try to disturb the peace and harmony of the state."
Meanwhile, security has been tightened in Amritsar and other parts of Punjab to prevent any further incidents. The Indian government has also issued a warning to all Khalistan supporters, stating that it will not hesitate to take strict action against anyone who tries to disrupt law and order.
The situation in Punjab remains tense, with many fearing that the Khalistan movement could once again escalate into violence. The Indian government has vowed to maintain law and order and ensure the safety of all citizens.
